This area, in the south eastern corner of Utah, holds a special appeal for me. It is very remote and the barren landscape feels like you are on the moon. I loved the neutral gray color of the hills in the background and how they accentuated the colors of the rocks.

I was photographing in Snow Canyon in southern Utah and I just wasn’t feeling like I was seeing well. I kept getting distracted and couldn’t focus my mind. So I told myself “Don’t take another step. Make a photograph right here.” I looked down and saw this abstract composition.

This image was taken on the “Weeping Rock” trail in Zion National Park. I sometimes find more interesting things to photograph on my way to, or returning from, the more “popular” destinations. That was certainly the case here.
