Sierras
Autumn in Lundy Canyon
In the Eastern Sierras, near Lee Vining, California
This image was made during my second trip to Lundy Canyon. We timed our visit perfectly, as the aspens were at their peak. There’s a narrow dirt road that skirts the edge of the beaver pond and I climbed on top of my truck to get this view, with the trees reflected in the water.

Tim – beautiful photo! Can I ask how early in October this was taken? I will be in the area on the 23rd of October and fear I will be too late to get images like this
thanks for sharing
Jim
Thanks, Jim. You could be OK on the 23rd. It all depends on a variety of factors. Beautiful colors can be decimated by just a few rainy or windy days. One area can be vibrant, while just over the pass everything’s done. Your best bet is to do research before you go. Check out the Calphoto group on Yahoo. Or try searching on “fall color 2011 California.” Lots of good info out there.
Good Luck!
